
It was National Girls Learning Code Day and two dozen girls aged 8 to 12, were concentrating on the task Nov. 12 at Capilano University in Sechelt.
Writing code refers to creating the sequence of instructions that gets a computer to perform a task, and it is a job that has been dominated by males. In this case, the girls used a programming language called Scratch, with help from volunteers who work in the tech industry.
