I have over 10 years experience working in the web industry, with a focus on front end web development for the past 6 years.
2003. I graduated with a B.A. (Honours) – major in Communication and minor in Psychology – from Simon Fraser University. After graduating I instructed a distance education course at SFU for a year and revised the course handbook as part of my contract.
2003-2006. In my role as a Marketing Coordinator with Hostelling International, I had the opportunity to learn the basics of HTML, CSS, web standards and email newsletter marketing. I took a few web development courses at BCIT and in 2005 began to freelance part time in order to gain experience on more advanced website projects.
2006. I became the first Web Communications Specialist for the Surrey School District, the largest school district in British Columbia. In this role I gained a lot of content strategy experience. I also performed website administration (search engine optimization, analytics) and developed websites for several district programs and initiatives.
2008. I made the switch to working full time as a freelance web developer. Visit my Services page to find out more about the kind of work I do these days.
When I’m not sitting in front of a computer I love to:
- Explore the wilderness (hiking, snowboarding, camping)
- Play in the water (swimming, diving, kayaking)
- Make music (once upon a time I was a DJ and sound producer)
- Experiment in the kitchen (pescatarian style)
- Grow my own food
- Travel the world
